A Welding Blanket is a piece of safety device designed to protect devices and the welder when welding. Welding blankets usually have a layer of flexible protective material containing unsaved vermiculite and inorganic heat resistant fibrous material.
The material protects the surrounding areas while maintaining the structural integrity of the blanket when exposed by scattering of molten metal during the welding process. Many modern Welding Blankets are made of Fire Retardant Cloths and can withstand working temperatures ranging from 1000 c to 1500 c. Safety Historically welding blankets were made of woven asbestos, although they have been widely discontinued due to safety concerns.
